About Lightning Family Martial Arts

Lightning Family Martial Arts is a family based martial arts club that has been in operation in Calgary since 1998, the club was originally founded under Mr. Christopher Howes, 5th Degree Black Belt. It was'nt long afterwards that Mr. Howes was joined by his star pupil and wife Mrs. Sonya Howes, 4th Degree Black Belt and together they have built one of the most well known traditional taekwon-Do schools in Canada, with members of all ages both male and female.

LFMA is a member of the ITF-TAO which stands for The International Taekwon-Do Federation - Traditional, Authentic, Original, which is overseen by the First Grandmaster of Taekwon-Do Rhee Ki Ha 9th Degree and is focussed on teaching the traditional style of Taekwon-Do as  it was created by the late founder of Taekwon-Do General Choi, Hong Hi. The ITF-TAO offers seminars and tournaments around the globe and annually in Canada which gives all students of Lightning Family Martial Arts the opportunity to train with the First Grandmaster of Taekwon-Do.

The club is based in martial arts tradition, however, still maintains a fun, family type atmosphere that appeals to people of all ages.
